Jupiter on March 7, 2004. Great Red Spot |
|
| Good weather stayed for another day and I
got some more visual of Jupiter and Saturn. I did mostly
visual observing. Three people besides me (my family and a friend of us) looked into the eyepiece and said they see an excellent view of Saturn with clearly visible Cassini division with subtle colors on the planet disk itself. Also the seeing was good enough to see zones on Jupiter even better then on the night before. There was Great Red Spot visible at still moments. The contrast of the features was pretty good. When I tried light pollution filter the contrast improved significantly. I tried to get some footage of Saturn on video through the filter. |

Approximately 130 DV NTSC frames stacked. The footage was shot on Sony TRV25 through MaxView, Barlow x2, using Konus MotorMax Maksutov Cassegrain 6". The main difference from the previous session is the usage of light pollution filter from Orion Deluxe filter set. It improved the contrast significantly. |
Also I tried the scope with and without filter on Orion Nebula. It was already low above the horizon when I got to it. The unfiltered view was deteriorated considerably by severe light pollution. The filter helped quite a bit. The image was still bright enough to see the shape of the nebula and some of its finer details. Surprisingly though the filter didnt help much to bring up more details on Saturn. |
